Durk Derrick, 29, popularly known as Lil Durk, is an American rapper and singer. His religion has become a trend following a series of his song that he said he's now a Muslim.
Lil Durk raps, "I changed my life, I'm Muslim," in his song "Viral Moment, " and "I'm Muslim / I go by Quran," in his line on Drake's "In the Bible." The music video for his song "Street Prayer" also has him dressed in a kufi and thobe while performing the Islamic prayer.
When asked
about his faith in an interview that was widely shared earlier this year, Lil
Durk responded as follows:
Interviewer: You’re Muslim?
Lil Durk: Yes
Interviewer: Were you raised Muslim or did that
come later?
Lil Durk: No, came later. Like when I was going
to church and I used to ask like, you know Jesus was on the wall and I’m like
this him? And they’d be like no. This ain’t real him. And I’m like wait hold
on. I'm confused now, like that’s when you start answering questions, you know
what I’m saying. So, I never really believed in Jesus from the get going. Then I’ll
just have a conversation with my daddy and even Ralo (Muslim rapper). And just
like some of my Muslim friends brothers and just politic with them and talking
to them. And I just decided to just convert over. Like I’m still learning
everything. Like I want to be like a master man. Like I want to know every every
situation.
Alhamdulillah. Welcome to Islam Lil Durk
