The Qualities of
Jesus
Â
He was of humanÂ
nature, one personalityÂ
and not three,Â
and a Messenger of Allaah:
Â
"OÂ peopleÂ
of the ScriptureÂ
(Jews andÂ
Christians)! Do not exceed the
limits in your religion, nor say of Allaah aught but the truth.
The Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, wasÂ
(no more than)Â
a Messenger ofÂ
Allaah and His WordÂ
("Be!"-and he was) which he bestowed on Mary and aÂ
spirit (Rooh) createdÂ
by Him; soÂ
believe in Allaah and His Messengers. SayÂ
not: 'Three (trinity)! Cease! (ItÂ
is) better forÂ
you. For AllaahÂ
is (the only) OneÂ
Ilaah (God), Glory
be to Him (Far Exalted is He) above having a son.
To Him belongs all thatÂ
is in the heavens and all that is on the earth. And
Allaah is All-Sufficient as a Disposer of affairs." (Qur'aan 4: 171)
Â
"The Messiah (Jesus) son of
Mary was no more than a Messenger;Â
many were theÂ
Messengers that passed away before him. His mother (Mary) was a Siddeeqah (i.e. she believed in
the Words of Allaah and His Books).
They both used to eatÂ
food (as any other human being, while Allaah doesÂ
not eat) LookÂ
how We make the Aayaat (proofs,Â
evidences, verses, lessons,Â
signs, revelations, etc.) clearÂ
to them, yetÂ
look how theyÂ
are deluded away (from the truth)." (Qur'aan 5:75)
Â
Although JesusÂ
is a Rooh (spirit)Â
from Allaah, this doesÂ
not mean that Jesus is an attribute of Allaah Himself.
Â
Allaah called Gabriel Roohana
(Our Rooh i.e. Our Spirit)Â and we
know that Gabriel is a created angel, existing, and has his own created
qualities. Similarly Allaah says about
the heavens and the earth that:
Â
"And hasÂ
subjected to youÂ
all that isÂ
in the heavens andÂ
all that isÂ
in the earth;Â
it is allÂ
as a favorÂ
and kindness from Allaah." (Qur'aan 45: 13)
Â
Clearly, theÂ
heavens and theÂ
earth are partÂ
of Allaah's creation and not part
of Allaah Himself or an attribute of Him. WeÂ
also read inÂ
the Qur'aan: Allaah's Messenger, Allaah's House (referringÂ
to the Ka’bah in Makkah),Â
etc.
The Messenger, the House, etc. are
like Allaah's Spirit, in the sense thatÂ
they are createdÂ
persons or thingsÂ
that are honorable inÂ
Allaah's Sight. However,Â
when one of the
two nouns is Allaah and the second is neither a person nor a thing,Â
then it is not aÂ
created thing butÂ
a quality of Allaah e.g. Allaah's Knowledge, Allaah's
Self, etc.
Â
Therefore, JesusÂ
is not anÂ
attribute of Allaah. InÂ
fact Allaah declares thatÂ
those who believeÂ
in Jesus as God
commit Kufr (disbelief):
Â
"Surely, in
disbelief are they who say that Allaah is the Messiah, son of Mary! Say (O Muhammad, peace
upon him): "Who then has the least power against Allaah, if He wereÂ
to destroy theÂ
Messiah son ofÂ
Mary, this mother, and all those whoÂ
are on the earthÂ
together? And to Allaah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth,Â
and all thatÂ
is between them.Â
He creates what HeÂ
wills. And AllaahÂ
is able toÂ
do all things." (Qur'aan 5: 17)
Â
The method of the creation of Jesus is
one of the Signs of Allaah showing His Great Ability of Creating as He Wills:
from a male and a female (ourselves); from a male without a female (Eve); from
a female without a male (Jesus), and from neither a male nor a female (Adam):
Â
"And We made her
and her son (Jesus)Â
a sign for Al- 'Aalameen (mankind and jinns)."
(Qur'aan 21: 91)
Â
Jesus has the honor of being a slave
of Allaah:
Â
"The
Messiah will neverÂ
be proud toÂ
reject to be a slave
to Allaah, nor the angels who are near (to Allaah). And whosoever rejects His
worship and is proud, then He will gatherÂ
them all togetherÂ
unto Himself." (Qur'aan
4: 172)
