Reasons You Should Start Using The Siwak

The siwak is a stick or twig used for the purpose of cleaning the mouth and teeth. The siwak made from a tree called Salvadora persica which means arak in Arabic. Using siwak to clean one’s mouth and teach will earn you the pleasure of Allah simply because it’s the sunnah of The Prophet (PBUH).

Below are reasons every Muslim you should start using the siwak:


1. It is the First The Prophet (PBUH) Use When Entered His House



Narrated by Aishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) was asked what the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) do when he first came home. She said: "When he entered his house, the first thing he would do was use the siwak."

(Sahih Muslim)


2. Use Siwak Whenever You Got Up During the Night



Narrated by Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allaah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) got up during the night, he would clean his mouth thoroughly with the siwak.

(Sahih Bukhari)


3. Muhammad (PBUH) Used Siwak Made From Arak tree



Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masood (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: "I used to gather siwak sticks from the Arak tree for the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

(Imam Ahmad).

4. Narrated by Aishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to use siwak, then he would give it to me to wash it. I would use it first, then wash it and give it back to him."

(Abu Dawood).


5. Siwak is Pleasing To Allah (SWT)



Narrated by Abdur-Rahman bin Abu 'Atiq (may Allaah be pleased with him) that: “My father told me, I heard 'Aishah say, (narrating) from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) “Siwak is a means of purification for the mouth and is pleasing to the Lord.”

6. It is Sunnah To Use Siwak Before Every Prayer



Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not that I would impose too much difficulty on my Ummah, I would have commanded them to delay 'Isha' and to use the Siwak for every prayer.".
