Praise be to Allaah (swt)
These are some of the rules and manners prescribed by the
sharee’ah of Islam about how to use the toilet and purification steps after using the toilet.
These etiquettes of using the toilet were taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which are as follows:

1. Do Not Uncover Your Awrah (Private Part)
Narrated by Anas ibn Malik (may Allaah be pleased with
him) that
“When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be
upon him) wanted to relieve himself, he would not raise his garment until he
was close to the ground.”
(Jami at-Tirmidhi))
Narrated by AbuSa’id al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased
with him) that the
Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him)
said: When two persons go together for relieving themselves uncovering their private
parts and talking together, Allaah, the Great and Majestic, becomes wrathful at
this (action)."
(Abu Dawood)
2. Dua (Supplication) While Entering Toilet
Narrated by Anas bin Malik (may Allaah be pleased with
him) that
"When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings
be upon him) would enter the toilet 'He said:
Allahumma in-nee a'oothu bika minal khubu-thee wal khabaa
ith.
Translation:
O Allaah, I seek refuge with you from all evil and
evil-doers.
(Jami` at-Tirmidhi)
[Enter the toilet with the left foot first]
3. Dua (Supplication) While Leaving Toilet
Narrated by Anas bin Malk (may Allaah be pleased with
him) that "when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him)
would leave the toilet "He said:
Ghufranak, alhamdu lillah-hil lazee-aaz haba annil-aaza
wa'aafani
Translation:
O Allaah, I seek forgiveness and pardon from You, All
Praise be to Allaah, who removed the difficulty from me and gave me ease
(relief)

[Leave the toilet with the right foot first]
Narrated by Abu Aiyub Al-Ansari (may Allaah be pleased
with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,
"While defecating, neither face nor turn your back to the Qibla but face
either east or west."
(Sahih Muslim)
5. Punishment For Not Cleaning Oneself After Urinating
Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allaah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) "passed by
two graves. He said: ‘These two are being punished. And they are not being punished
for something major. As for this one, he would not protect himself from his
urine. As for this one, he used to spread Namimah (slander).’”
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi)
6. Do Not Remove Najaasah (Impurity) With Your Right Hand
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“When any one of you cleans himself, he should not use his right hand, he
should use his left hand.”
(Ibn Majah)
7. Do Not Touch Your Private Part With Right Hand
Narrated by Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah (may Allaah be
pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon
him) prohibited that a man should touch his private part with his right hand.”
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi)
8. Impurity Should Be Washed, Wiped 3 Times Or Odd Number Of Times Greater Than 3
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“When anyone of you cleans himself (with stones or similar material) let him
use an odd number.”
(Musnad Ahmad)
9. Do Not Urinate By Roadside, Place Where People Seek Shade
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him)
that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Fear the two things that bring curses.” They asked, “What are the two things
that bring curses, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said: “When a person relieves
himself in the road where people walk or in the place where they seek shade.”
