Reasons You Should Not Visit Magician And Fortuneteller In Islam

Due to the rise of fortunetellers and magicians in our world today, who claim to have the power of the unseen and the ability to cure people of different ailments and calamities but it is only Allah is capable of the unseen.

“And with Him are the keys of the unseen treasures – none knows them but He; and He knows what is in the land and the sea, and there falls not a leaf but He knows it, nor a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything green nor dry but (it is all) in a clear book.” [Quran 6:59]

They use magic to deceive ignorant Muslims who lacks the basic knowledge about Islam and what Allah and his messenger (peace be upon him) says about seeking help from them.

Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: “whoever goes to a magician or a fortuneteller an believes in what he tells him disbelieves in what has been revealed to Muhammad.” (Ahmad)

The Prophet (SAW) said: “whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortuneteller and consults him, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.” (Muslim)

Imraan Ibn Husain (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: “He is not one of us who believes in evil omens or talismans, who goes to a fortuneteller, or goes to a sorcerer. Whoever goes to a fortuneteller and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what has been revealed upon Muhammad (SAW).” (Al-Bazzaar)

It is not permissible for a Muslim to inquire help from fortuneteller or magician, or believe anything they tell him.

Many Muslim today, before they start to do something, they will first seek a fortuneteller or magician to know whether the outcome will favour them or not.
Below are the common examples of what ignorant Muslims seek from fortuneteller and magicians, and which they should avoid because it is a great sin in Islam.

  • Inquiring about whom one should marry or not
  • What type of business to invest their money for humongous profits?
  • Protection charm or talisman
  • Love charm
  • Atonement for pregnancy
  • Sacrificing and slaughtering for jinn
A Muslim must hate and condemn anything that Allah has made the prohibition on him. Likewise the issue of magic, a Muslim must disregard any form of magic, whether in movies (such as lord of the ring, harry porter, e.t.c.) and live performers.
And it is also haram to seek black magic to get free from a magic spell. This is an act of shaytan.

It is allowed in Islam to cure people of magic spells by the use of Quran and dua from Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Even though what fortuneteller or magician told you to come to pass, this does not validate that it is haram to visit them.

Some people asked Allah’s Messenger (SAW) about the fore-tellers. Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said to them, “They are nothing (i.e. liars).” The people said, “O Allah’s Messenger (SAW)! Sometimes they tell something which comes out to be true.” Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “That word which comes to be true is what a jinx snatches away by stealing and then pours it in the ear of his fore-teller with a sound similar to the cackle of a hen, and then they add to it one-hundred lies.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 6213]

Conclusion

There is nothing wrong for a Muslim to seek medical treatment of any kind of diseases from a physician, in which the treatment is not against the ruling of Islam. This should not change your belief that Allah is the creator of sicknesses as well as their remedies and cures.

May Allah guide to the straight path.
